Selection and genetic parameters of productive traits and exterior features of black-and-white cattle in Western Siberia

The article presents materials on the selection and genetic indicators of black-and-white cattle. The amount of repeatability allows for selection by productive qualities already in the first lactation. There was a significant negative moderate relationship between the mass fraction of fat and milk yield for 305 days of lactation (- 0.308; Р>0,999). There is a tendency of negative weak dependence between the milk yield and the mass fraction of protein, namely, the increase in milk yield is accompanied by a slight decrease in protein content.

Estimation of servicing bulls according to the offspring quality is one of the main items in selection process, which allows determining the strategy of herd improving in breeding, productive and conformation features. The research has been carried out in the Ayrshire cattle herd in agricultural production cooperative Mayskiy Plemzavod, the Vologda District, the Vologda Region.

Exterior features and milk quality of Saanen goats

The purpose of this research was to determine the relation between the exterior characteristics of Saanen goats and their milk productivity. We have studied the Saanen goats population having the body development in accordance with the breed standard. For adult goats the height at the shoulder was 75.4cm as compared to the standard height of 75cm; the height at the hips - respectively 75.7 and 76cm; the body length - 80.2 and 81cm; the chest girth - 86.6 and 88cm. So, the goats showed the optimal index of lengthiness and blockiness for these animals of 109% and 107% respectively.
